:iconshadowed-light-waves:
This was taken this past Thursday (April 30th) as I was heading to work.

There was a Native American event going on downtown, and there must've been three or four generations of people gathered around a drum in the middle of the sidewalk -- singing, chanting, and dancing. Some wore traditional costumes adorned with features. Others wore T-Shirts and jeans in lieu of the sunny weather.

I think they were holding a celebration to welcome the salmon. 8D And I, like the tourist that I am, pulled out my camera.

I'm a tourist in my own city. :slow:

Cool. I live in a region with a high population of Native Americans of the Nuxalk tribe. Various families make potlach throughout the year and there is always drumming and dancing. It's a grand thing to see and hear.

Oh cool!! :omfg: I'd never seen something like this before. I'm happy to learn that these sorts of cultural events are still practiced in some places. :happycry:

Haha! Craziness, I know!

At first, I thought the people were doing rain dances or something, and I wanted to jump in there and chase them away!! :lmao:

Then someone told me it was a dance for the salmon. :bucktooth: ...Lol, oh.
